Hear God’s word.
Then do something with the word. Accept it. Embrace it. Apply it. Watch the transformative power of God’s word work in your heart.
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says.James 1:22
Our lives have seasons that relate to each example in the parable of the sower. We can look back to times when our hearts were hard or when the cares of this world choked out the seed. We can also see times when God is at work and his word is landing on good soil in our hearts – that’s our prayer.
What is one great follow up to God’s word being sown in your heart? Speak that word to others!
This powerful follow up to hearing God’s word brings action and witness which help us live out God’s word.
Here are some areas you can speak God’s word to others:
Memorizing scripture and allowing it to roll around in your heart and mind is a great follow-up to hearing God’s word. We each have a “rolling script” in our heads. Self-talk is part of how we are wired and drives our actions throughout the day. When God’s word is in the mix, our attitudes, work, dispositions, and relational connections are changed for the better.
The world can use more of God’s word. Social media is a simple way to share it. Share a scripture verse, an image of a scripture verse, or something you’re learning. It’s a huge witness with power to impact the lives of others. The YouVersion Bible App has a daily verse with various images you can easily share. It also has great reading plans.
Discussing scripture and what you’re learning in God’s word with your spouse is a great way to keep growing in faith and to stay committed as a married couple.
Share God’s word with your children every chance you get. It doesn’t have to be a family devotion time (though it can be). Share it naturally in everyday conversations while walking, driving, or waiting. If you have young kids at home, here are a couple ideas that we mentioned the podcast below: Action Bible | Bible Book Memory Card
Take advantage of opportunities to share God’s word with your small group, in a Bible study, or individuals. This can take many forms – reading, teaching, leading, or encouraging others with what you’re learning.
God’s word can make a difference in the lives of co-workers. The active power of God’s word in your heart, coupled with the timing of the Holy Spirit, will open your conversations in the right way. Scripture verses about integrity, wisdom, decisions, finances, leadership, and more can be a huge open door to marketplace conversations.
In my experience, you don’t get a chance to talk to extended family every day, but when you do, you typically have more time. Take advantage of relaxed, unhurried time to share God’s word.
How will you share God’s word with the world? Mission trips, t-shirts, letters, conversations, your witness? The list is endless.
It all begins with hearing God’s word. Hide it in your heart, allow it to transform your life, and then doing something with it – Share God’s word and experience God’s amazing power.
