Two Thoughts from the The Garbage Truck

The trash guy came this morning. Intriguing little system we take for granted. You load all your trash into a big blue wheeled cart, set it at your curb and it’s gone by nine!

I have an idea where it’s taken but I would never go there for any reason.  Even if i did want to go retrieve it, the chances of finding it would be next to impossible.

Listening to the squeaky brakes of the truck this morning reminds me of two truths in scripture.

One, the trash removal reminds me of God’s grace in taking our sins and doing away with them.

Two, it reminds me, even with any good we may do in life, it’s rubbish in comparison to knowing Christ.

As far as the east is from the west,    so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12

What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.  Phil 3:8-9
