Most of the time, we don’t realize that what we are doing is mediocre. We need people to challenge us and sharpen us.
I’ve been reading H3 Leadership by Brad Lomenick. In the book, he discusses the three steps to excellence:
- Be Efficient – Turn in work on time.
- Be Effective – Do great work.
- Be Congenial – Be a pleasure to work with.
It seems simple. Some people do great work, but working with them is difficult. Some people are super fun to work with, but they don’t get things done. Some people are always behind schedule.
To stay above average, employ these three simple steps: Be efficient, effective, and congenial.

I write with church leaders in mind and I would be honored to have you join me by subscribing to the blog. You can take a look at the top posts here. The posts are categorized: pastors, worship leaders, student ministry, and kids ministry. In case we’re just meeting, here’s a little about my life.
