As a student ministry leader, it’s not likely you’ll be able to get to know every single student in the group. In fact, even if the group is small enough and you do have lots of extra time, there will be some students with whom you will connect with more than others.
Building relationships helps bring life and and health to the group, but as the group grows, this becomes more difficult. Here’s the key to make it happen:
You build a relationship with students through others.
Leaders must learn to equip and encourage other adults to love students and build relationships with them. As you develop and work with your team, your impact will grow wider. It’s a simple truth – as you narrow your focus, your impact widens.
There are several ways to recruit and equip adult student ministry leaders, you just have to be intentional to invest time in doing it. Developing leaders in your ministry is the best thing you can do and the best gift you can leave your church.
You don’t have to have a huge team of people to begin – start with who you have and equip them through conversations, meetings, and training for maximum ministry. You will be ministering through them! Here are a few things you can teach your team about relational ministry with students:
- Why ministry to students is important.
- What components are most important.
- What boundaries are needed.
- How to connect with students.
- Praying for your students.
- How to begin conversations with students.
- Showing enthusiasm in student ministry.
Your ministry cannot grow without inviting more adults to help build connections and relationships. The impact will be stronger, more students will be connected and you’ll be able to not only keep serving in ministry but also taking care of other ministry leadership components.
This scales – to endless numbers. It’s not easy work, but it’s the work you must do. Inviting others to join you in reaching students for Christ.
Who can you invite to join you today? When can you set up a training and equipping meeting with your team?
