As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you… John 20:21
Jesus’ words make me think about the power of the summer ministry. As he was sent, so we are being sent. We seek to model the way Jesus worked in the world. Though he was in churches, he didn’t stay there all the time. And though his life of ministry was balanced with prayer and solitude, that wasn’t all he did. He was with people, in everyday settings.
It’s been in those types of settings that we have been able to share the love of Christ with adults, students and peers. This summer, we have has many opportunities to share a witness to people in non-church settings – such as camps, a children’s home, Holiday World, restaurants, libraries, gas stations, wal-marts and parking lots. We have had a blast spending time in people’s homes over meals and at celebrations! And the times of worship, quiet, and prayer have been wonderful.
As the father sent you, Jesus, continue to send us. Send us out with your passion, grace and love for people. Give us a spirit of power and love and self discipline. Give us eyes to see those in need and gives us discernment to ask the right questions at the right time. Help us learn and grow as your disciples as we encourage one another on the team. We are yours!
