I ran across this little verse at the beginning of a rather famous passage in 1 Samuel.
The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare;there were not many visions. – 1 Samuel 3:1
I wonder if this may be true for us today. I realize that the Bible as we know it wasn’t available at this time, but it’s true that when the Word of the Lord is present, there is vision, hope and a sense of peace. When the Word of the Lord has been rare in our lives, we find ourselves with little vision. We are moving from day to day, overwhelmed. Stressed. In a hurry with not much accomplishment to show for it.
The Word of the Lord always brings vision. This little verse caught my eye today. We need vision in our churches. And we need it to grow from a personal encounter with Jesus and his Word.
