Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it. – 2 Cor 13:5-7
The world is getting a little crazier each day. We’ve got kids trying to act like adults – and failing. Adults trying to act like kids – and skirting any sort of responsibility. And there doesn’t seem to be accountability on any level.
I ran across this scripture today. Paul was telling the young church to test themselves and to make sure they were solid in the faith. To give themselves regular check ups. To find first hand evidence that Christ is in them and at work.
As ministry leaders, it’s easy to begin to drift along, taking it all for granted. Do the hard work of a self checkup. Allow Christ to fill you with resurrection power – it’s what makes the difference. It’s by God’s strength that ministry happens and the church grows.
Don’t rely on the good words of others to assess your life and work. Though encouragement is great, word from others are easy come /easy go. Do a self soul check. Pray the prayer from Psalm 139:
Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
