It was great to lead worship at East Alton First UMC Sunday Morning, October 16. They were celebrating Laity Sunday and invited me to lead the music with my guitar. The people were warm, friendly and the congregation really connected in worship that day. Thanks to Angela for inviting me and setting up the details. Also, thanks to Pastor Dan for allowing the congregation to serve during the morning worship services.
Following the church service, I ran into a couple different people – one young girl had heard about me for several years but had never met me. She is currently part of the high school youth group that I had been a youth pastor for several years earlier. Her current youth pastor is now one of the girls that was in my youth group back when she was a 7th grade student! Another young man talked with me who had attended the Fire-Up Conference as a high school student and is now an adult. And the wife of the worship leader at the church attended a 5th and 6th grade camp that I led music for back in the early 90’s. Quite a fun world of being in the conversations and circles of faith for kids that grow up and stay connected.
It was also a privilage to visit with three church leaders following the service that day about topics relating to worship, outreach and church effectiveness. I could talk half the day about it. Thanks for the invitation to serve with you all! It was a great morning.
