Might and strength won’t make the new year better. It will be when we are closer to God’s spirit.
…’Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty. Zech. 4:6
New ideas alone won’t make the new year better. It will be when we are closer to God’s grace.
So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them. Heb. 13:9
We must get closer to God’s word.
Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
We must grow closer to God’s voice.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:27-28
We must be closer to God’s truth.
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6
Closer to God’s people.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Heb. 10:25
Closer to God’s heart.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.James 4:8
Resolutions, goals, and dreams are good. But the start of the year should be rooted in getting closer to Jesus.
Not closer to be more successful, more productive, or happier.
But for no other end than to be closer to Jesus.
“Am I a God who is near,” declares the LORD, “And not a God far off? Jer 23:23
My simple overarching goal this year is to be closer to Jesus.
