Biscuits and Gravy

I have traveled by it many times, but it had been a while and I was telling my daughter the story of just one of billions of little memories I have.

The Wagon Wheel, located in Carrollton, IL, was the first place I ever remember having biscuits and gravy for breakfast.  I was with my grandpa one morning and that’s what he ordered, so I did too.  He was a farmer about eight miles from town and I’m not sure what we were doing over there, but we stopped in, sat down and had breakfast.  I don’t remember much of what we talked about that morning or even how old I was.  But I remember thinking I was cool to be there having breakfast. It was also at The Wagon Wheel that I first used pepper… to pepper my biscuits and gravy.

I still consider biscuits and gravy to be one of my favorite breakfasts when I am “out to eat” in the morning.  I also use pepper on about everything.

So, as I passed the Wagon Wheel, a blip on the map and probably a blip in my grandpa’s day when I was a kid, I had this thought:  What little things am I doing today that are going to be engrained in the memory of my small kids or other people in my life?  I want to make each moment count.
