There is a phrase I picked up in seminary that I have loved using on many occasions. The professor probably didn’t mean for me this to by my “take away” from his semester of church history, but it has come in very useful at times.
The question was, “Do you believe in infant baptism?” And the answer was, “Believe it? I’ve seen it!”
What a great way to defuse a potentially heated discussion. For whatever reason, this one statement helps set a more relaxed tone for a converstaion on a number of topics.
So, you’re welcome to take the joke. Use it when needed. It’s surprising just how well this fits into lots of questions.
