The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. 1 Timothy 1:5
It’s the instructions he was giving thoughout the book that would help the new young and new believers to work on these areas, which would automatically increase their love. It may seem vague to say, “work on loving more”. But, with these three concrete places to work on, love will be a natural by-product:
1) A pure heart – There’s nothing better than love without motives. There’s no thought of what might be given in return. A pure heart has no pretense, is more transparent and doesn’t hold grudges.
2) A clear conscience – No debt to anyone. No overriding issue that causes you not to freely love God, your spouse your family. A clear conscience allows for us to love more freely.
3) A genuine faith – A childlike, simple faith. A faith that has been tested. Genuine in the sense that you believe it, even if you can’t see it.
This scripture inspired me this morning. It’s wholesome, good, pure and true. These three things can increase the amount of love we are able to give. We need to filled with love and one way to accomplish this in a concrete way to add these three things to our lives.
